- Summer 2008 - May 27, 2008 thru August 15, 2008
Types of Loans:
- The Living Expense Loan is available to students registered in
the current semester (those students who are enrolled in units and
have paid the minimum required fees). The maximum
loan amount is $725. Exceptions require approval
from Financial Aid Counseling Staff.
- The Co-payable Loan for Fees is available to non-registered
students (those students enrolled in units, without blocks who
have not paid the minimum required fees) for the amount
required to qualify for the Fee Payment Plan, $725
effective 8/21/07. The check is payable
to the University and the student. The Co-Payable
Loan for Fees is not available for summer session fees.
Application Procedure:
- Applications are available for distribution and submission from 9:00am
- 12:15pm, Monday through Thursday at the Emergency Loan Office, 220
Sproul Hall (510-642-0470). The office will
be open on Fridays for the first 3 weeks of the fall and spring semesters,
resuming regularly scheduled hours the 4th week.
- Students must submit their U.C. photo ID with the application. A second photo
ID is required when picking up the loan check.
- Checks are available in approximately 1 hour but must be picked up
before 1:00 pm on the day of application. Checks that are
not picked up will be cancelled and the borrower will have to reapply
on another business day.
- Co-payable checks will be forwarded to the Cashier’s Office
to be applied toward current registration fees.
- Students who have repaid all their loans in full may borrow subsequent
loans within the same semester.
Terms:
- Loans are interest free and due in approximately 60 days.
- There is a $20 administrative fee for all loans on each day
of application.
- Loans and the administrative fee are billed through
the Campus Accounts Receivables System (CARS) and payable at the Billing
and Payment Services Office, 140 University Hall. Credits, such as
financial aid, may pay off the loan prior to the due date and before
financial aid refunds are issued. Students are responsible for monitoring
their CARS accounts for payments.
- Loans not paid by the due date are considered delinquent and are
subject to late fees, collection penalties and fees, and administrative
blocks and holds. Questions regarding payment can be addressed
to the Billing and Payment Services Office at 140 University Hall (510-
642-3190).
